Howdy,
I can’t believe my last newsletter was in January. I really forced you guys to sign up and then said siiiiiike! As most of you know I pivoted to @imanwuzhere because that was even more low-stakes and took up less time (theoretically). I’m always toggling between the idea of a passion project and trying to make money. The world has made it to where everything creative needs to be monetized so once I realized this newsletter wasn’t going to make me rich and famous I chunked into the land of misfit ideas (where my Etsy shop, itinerary business, and DJ career also live). Currently, I’m playing around with the idea of writing a fiction book — here’s an excerpt (all I’ve written so far):
“Samir was an anomaly at 6’3, a rarity compared to the desi men at 5’8 whose napoleon complexes bled through in everything they did. Samir never felt the need to add photos of his BMW on Instagram or his Rolex with the hashtags #rishandgrind and reposted quotes from Elon. He was intrinsically kind with a politician’s charm and a wide smile.”
I’ve been pretty depresso lately and I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that I don’t do a lot of things for “fun”. Ever since I went freelance and monetized my writing capabilities I lost the one thing I did for myself. It’s hard when time is money and everything that isn’t monetized work feels like a waste of time. Ah, can’t you tell that capitalism has sunk its bloody teeth into me?
I want to learn how to knit, play chess, roller skate on concrete, and DJ with equipment. Hold me to these goals?
Television
I’m on episode two of Clickbait and you’re going to have to peel me on the couch because I am addicted.
This season of Bachelor in Paradise is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. Everyone is chasing fame so openly and shows no remorse about how terrible they are as people… pure chaos! It’s amazing.
All American season three was freaking amazing as well. Less Coop >
Books
Pride, Prejudice, and Other Flavors was good albeit the lame title.
Malibu Rising was good but not nearly as good as Evelyn Hugo or Daisy Jones.
People we Meet on Vacation was good but again, not nearly as good as Beach Read.
What I Was Doing While You Were Breeding was the perfect single girl traveling alone book… It inspired me to get outside of my comfort zone in a way I never would have prior to reading.
The Hating Game was worth the hype and I can’t wait for the Lucy Hale movie.
Pods
Steph Shepard on Second Life with great advice like “You do what you have to do to be able to do what you want to do".
Matthew McConaughey on Armchair Experts was the more interesting and chaotic thing I’ve ever listened to
This was a great episode if you’re looking for career advice and guidance
